Installing the app

Please follow the instructions below to walk through the installation of the app.

Download the application

Please contact app@pump.is to get a link to the app download page.

Once you’re at the download page, fetch the latest version of the app. Since the application is being distributed outside of the Google Play store (for now), you will get warnings stating the file could be harmful and that your device is configured not to install unknown apps.

This is expected, and you’ll need to select a mixture of “Download anyway”, “Install unknown apps from this source” and the like.

Eventually, you’ll get to a screen which allows you to install the pump.is app:

Allow Bluetooth permission

When you first open the app, you’ll be prompted for two types of permissions.

First, you’ll be prompted for the generic Bluetooth connection permissions. These are needed in order to connect to the pump.is device.

Second, you’ll be prompted to allow access to the Android device’s location. This is a weird one, but it’s required! The pump.is app is not performing any location tracking of any kind, but it does perform Bluetooth Low Energy Device Scanning, and since that could be used for location tracking, granting this permission is required for the application to find your pump.is device.

Pairing the app to your pump.is device

Once you’ve granted Bluetooth permissions, you’re ready to start pairing with your device. Pairing happens entirely within the pump.is app itself, not via Android’s Bluetooth settings.

Imporant: Before starting the device search, make sure that your Android device is itself not paired with a WT-0001 device. If you were running the old version of the application (BJ3), you will need to enter your Android Bluetooth settings and unpair any WT-0001 device seen there.

Once you’ve entered the device search menu, hit “Start search”.

A few quick pointers:

  • Make sure the pump.is device is turned on and is within range.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  • Make sure the Android device itself (in Settings/Bluetooth) is not paired to any WT-0001 devices (see note above).

Once your device appears, select it. If no device appears and the pointers above don’t work, please contact app@pump.is.

Once you’ve selected the device it will connect to load the boards configuration. This should happen only once and should only take a few seconds.

You’re done, enjoy!

Once the configuration is loaded, you should see a screen similar to the one below, and you’re set to go!

Head over to basic usage for an overview of how to get started using the app.
